This is the one we don't talk about publicly.

Most visitors to Salt Spring never discover this little stretch of beach, and that's exactly why it's still worth discovering. No crowds. No noise. Just the sound of the water, the smell of cedar, and usually, a whole lot of empty shoreline to yourself.

We've been coming here for years. It's our favourite swim spot in the neighbourhood, and we're genuinely happy to share it with you. All we ask is that you read through this first.

Getting There

Getting There

It's a short walk from the cabin, but you need to know what to look for.

  1. Head out the driveway and turn right.
  2. Walk down the road. Take your time, it's a nice sof troll.
  3. Keep an eye on the left side of the road for a Canada Post mailbox.
  4. Just before the mailbox, you'll see what looks like a private driveway. That's your turn.
  5. Head down that short road toward the water.
  6. Near the end, you'll cross a small bridge over a stream.
  7. You'll see a cedar fence with a gate marked "Private." Push it open and go through.
  8. Take the stairs down. The beach opens up at the bottom.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go

The beach itself is public. Any beach below the high tide line in BC is public land. What's semi-private is the path and the access point. Local residents took the time and effort to build and maintain that route. That access is a gift, and it can disappear if it isn't respected.

Leave no trace, seriously. Carry everything in, carry everything out. If you pack a picnic, bring a bag for your garbage. Don't leave anything behind, not even a bottle cap.

No paddleboards, no kayaks, no canoes. This is why the gate is narrow. The beach is a calm, quiet spot and keeping larger gear out helps it stay that way.

Skip the speaker. We know it's tempting, but this place earns its magic through the quiet. Birdsong, water, wind. That's the playlist here.

No parties. Good swims, yes. Picnics, yes. Big groups with coolers full of drinks, no. This one matters for keeping access open for everyone.

You may see locals down there. Be friendly. You're a guest in their neighbourhood spot. A smile and a hello go a long way.

What to Bring

A towel. Reef-safe, ocean-friendly sunscreen (the water here is clean and we'd love to keep it that way). A picnic if you're feeling ambitious. Water shoes are handy if the rocky entry bothers your feet. A good book. Nothing else required.

Tides Matter

This beach is best visited at high to mid tide. At low tide, the water pulls back, and you lose a lot of the magic. Check the tide chart before you head down so you time it right.
